E-KONG Group rings up new IDD calling service in Singapore

ZONE1511 gives customers choice and convenience  over their IDD calls

Singapore, August 17, 2000 – Hong Kong listed e-KONG Group announced today that its groundbreaking Internet IDD service portal, ZONE1511, has taken another step towards rapid regional expansion. e-KONG’s Singapore subsidiary -- TelaPortal -- is deploying the ZONE1511 service in Singapore.  Customers who register at www.zone1511.com.sg from now until 15 September 2000 will be offered free IDD calls worth S$20.

Through a single account, customers can register and access a list of IDD service providers online. ZONE1511 automatically connects customers to the service provider offering the best rate at the time of their call.  The Web site also allows customers to track their calls and monitor their phone charges as they speak in real time. At the end of the month, all calls from all IDD service operators are consolidated into one statement, offering both home and business users better control over IDD call charges.

“The path leading up to our launch has been very smooth.” said Jeffrey B. Fraser, Vice President of ZONE Group. “The leading telecoms operators in Singapore have been very cooperative in opening up their switches so that IDD users can enjoy the benefits of Singapore’s first Internet IDD portal -- ZONE1511.”

“Choosing IDD services is becoming increasingly confusing these days,” said Yvonne Lee, managing director of TelaPortal Singapore. “Some IDD customers will eventually find themselves switching service providers on a daily basis just to take advantage of the best rates available in the market. What ZONE1511 does is to help customers get the best mix of price and quality without worrying about which access number they must use for each call. Customers can truly benefit from having ZONE1511 select an IDD service provider for them for each call. Making an IDD call should be simple. ZONE1511 customers will appreciate how simple and convenient our offering is.” Currently, twelve IDD service brands have signed up with ZONE1511 in Singapore, including Magictel Premium, Magictel, SunPage, i2U, CircleCom,  Wherever.net, Innomedia, Pan Asia Telecom, iTopia, China Motion International Limited, Elephant Talk.

"The launch of ZONE1511 in Singapore marks another milestone in our international expansion plans,” said e-KONG chief executive officer, Derrick Bulawa.  “ The service will be brought to the US within the next month and we will leap frog to launch the ZONE1511 service in other key markets within a short period.”

e-KONG launched its first Web-based service in Hong Kong in March 2000, the world’s first IDD service portal. Since its launch over 20,000 customers have signed up for the service which offers a choice of 15 service brands. Calls can be made from any fixed wireline or mobile phone.
